Sambhar recipe

Sambhar is combination of lentil along with different veggies and spices.It is a little tangy spicy in taste and is deliciously good when served with Masala Dosa and chutney .

For Sambhar Ingredients

  1. Arhar dal-1cup
  2. Veggies- potato,brinjal,bottlegourd,carrot,drumsticks,pumpkin or whichever is available at home.
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Turmeric powder-2tsp

Recipe for Sambhar

  1. Pressure cook Dal along with veggies.
  2. Add a little salt and turmeric and cook until veggies cook completely
  3. Take in a separate bowl.
  4. Now prepare for tadka.

For tadka(Ingredients)

  1. Onion-1/diced
  2. Tomato-1/chopped
  3. Black mustard-1tsp
  4. Whole greenchillies-2
  5. Oil-1tbspn
  6. Curry leaves:8-10
  7. Sambhar masala:4-5 tsp or as req
  8. Tamarind -100 gms soaked in  1/2 cup water
  9. Salt to taste

Recipe for tadka

  1. Heat oil in a kadhai and add black mustard and curry leaves.
  2. Then add onions and fry till light brown in colour .
  3. Add tomatoes and whole red chillies and cook until tomatoes soften.
  4. Time to add sambhar masala and salt .
  5. Now add  the  cooked dal along with tamarind water and mix everything together.
  6. Cook on low flame for 5-10 mins till sambhar thickens a little.
  7. It is ready to serve now.
