Rajma Masala Curry /Kidney Beans Curry

Rajma Chawal, a red kidney bean curry served with rice mostly ,is a traditional Indian recipe that is cooked in almost all Indian households and is a favourite of many of us.

Try this easy recipe and dig in the exotic flavours this simple dish brings!!



  1. Oil-2tbspn
  2. Cumin seeds-11/2tsp
  3. Onion -1/chopped
  4. Tomato-1/chopped
  5. Ginger garlic paste-2tsp
  6. Red chilly powder-11/2tsp
  7. Turmeric powder-1tsp
  8. Coriander powder-2tsp
  9. Green chilly-2
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Boiled rajma-1cup soaked for 6hrs and pressure cook with a little salt and 21/2cup water until cooked completely.
  12. Garam masala-1tsp
  13. Chopped coriander-for garnishing
  14. Cooking cream (optional)


  1. Heat oil in a kadhai and add cumin seeds,as it splutters add chopped onions.
  2. Cook until golden brown and then add ginger garlic paste.
  3. After a minute add chopped tomatoes and dry spices and cook until tomatoes soften completely.
  4. Add a little water to avoid burning of the spices.
  5. Cover the lid for 2-3 mins and as the oil leaves the side of kadhai add the boiled kidney beans or rajma to it along with the left over boiled water used to boil it.
  6. Now cover the lid for 5-7mins after adding a little water if needed
  7. Garnish with garam masala and coriander leaves and serve withrice or  chapati.
